Besides Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, Ba Dinh square surrounding is a gathering place of historic constructions and tourist attractions such as the President Palace, stilt house, One Pillar pagoda, etc.
Limited by Hoang Van Thu street, Hung Vuong street, Doc Lap street, and Chua Mot Cot street, but the space of Ba Dinh square is also expanded to other directions such as Bac Son, Dien Bien Phu, etc.
Of which, Ho Chi Minh mausoleum is a central architectural work. The President Palace was built in 1902. This is a typical work of neoclassical style, with strict symmetry rules and many classical designs.
Albert Sarraut school now is Party Central Committee. It was built in 1919. The construction is a complex of many architectural blocks and the main one faces to the square with classical style.
Situated on the south, near the Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh museum was planned to be constructed right after Uncle Ho’s death. But after 20 years (from 1970 and 1990), the museum was officially opened. The construction is a sample of modern style with big parts, blocks and strong patterns. The entrance ticket for foreign tourists is VND 15,000 and free of charge for Vietnamese people.
The Monument of heroic martyrs sacrificed for the country at the end of Bac Son road, a straight road with the Mausoleum in the east of the Square. Completed in 1994, the Martyrs Monument has architectural form and proportion in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
One Pillar pagoda is an ancient architectural work in the Ba Dinh square region, next to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and was built in 1049 under Ly dynasty. The pagoda has been restored many times. In 1954, before withdrawing from Hanoi, the French army destroyed the temple. The temple was restored again in 1955 with almost same architecture.
The stilt house and fish pond are situated in the President Ho Chi Minh historic site and in campus of the President Palace. This is a national special relic.
Parliament House is the latest project in the architectural complex on Ba Dinh Square. The construction was completed in late 2014, on old foundation of Ba Dinh Hall, next to the archaeological site of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and designed by the group of German architect. This is a special and large-scale building in modern and traditional architectural combination.
